The Red Sox and Padres are each playing their best baseball of the year ahead of their showdown Friday night.

Since June 12, the Red Sox are 10-3. Entering play on Thursday, Boston (43-37) had drawn even with the Royals for the final wild card spot in the American League.

Outfielder Jarren Duran is the sparkplug atop the lineup, as he leads MLB in doubles (23) and triples (10), while compiling an .831 OPS. Rafael Devers has been his usual potent self, with a .927 OPS and 16 home runs, both team-highs.

The Padres, meanwhile, have won seven of their last eight games. They just swept a three-game set from the Nationals, a competitor in the National League wild card race, to move to a season-best three games above .500 (44-41).

Jurickson Profar has been a revelation in the heart of San Diego's batting order. The veteran is slashing .316/.408/.484, while also leading the team in hits (90) and RBI (55).
