The Boston Red Sox, after losing the series opener to the Chicago Cubs 7-1, opened up the floodgates in Game 2, winning 17-0.
Boston's offense was incredible in the contest led by Ceddanne Rafaela, who finished the game 4-for-4 with a home run, a stolen base and seven RBIs.
Infield Bobby Dalbec also had a nice game, as he went 2-for-4 with three RBIs (even if one of hits was off of a position player). Tyler O'Neill (3-for-5 with two RBIs) continued his insane start to the season with another home run, pulling him to within one of the league leader (Mike Trout - 10).
Wilyer Abreu (2-for-6), Jarren Duran (2-for-5), Pablo Reyes (1-for-2), Masataka Yoshida (4-for-5) and David Hamilton (1-for-2) also drove in a run a piece.
Not to be lost in this game is the pitchers' performances despite the team having to use an opener again. Josh Winckowski started for Boston, allowing just three hits in three innings of scoreless work. That was followed up by appearances from Brennan Bernardino, Justin Slaten, Cam Booser and even Pablo Reyes closing it out. Those four went the remaining six innings giving up just two walks and two hits while striking out six.
This is exactly the type of performance that the Red Sox needed. With all of the injuries and all of the downs this year, it's nice to just see them go out and just dominate.
Boston and Chicago will meet again on Sunday for the finale at Fenway Park with the winner taking the series.
