The Boston Red Sox secured a 3-2 win on Sunday over the Washington Nationals to earn a series victory at Fenway Park.
Boston sent Brayan Bello to the mound for the finale, and he delivered five innings of four-hit, two-run ball. Those two runs, coming from a walk and a two-run home run in the fourth, were the only runs allowed by Red Sox pitchers.
After Bello, the Red Sox sent out Cam Booser, Zack Kelly, Chris Martin and Kenley Jansen, who all pitched scoreless innings.
Catcher Connor Wong was a massive help to the pitching staff, throwing out three runners who were attempting to steal, including to record the last out of the contest.
Boston's bats continued their issues with strikeouts, going down on strikes 11 times as a team. They recorded seven hits and on the day and scored three runs (all in the third).
The Red Sox were helped by Nationals outfielder Victor Robles dropping an easy fly ball, allowing Wong to advance to third base. Two batters later, Ceddanne Rafaela scored Vaughn Grissom and Garrett Cooper on a ground-rule double. Duran scored on a wild pitch in the very next at-bat.
Boston's offense still needs to pick up their slack, as they've been struggling for over a week now.
After the win, they'll take on the Tampa Bay Rays for a four-game series starting on Monday.
