The Boston Red Sox have already made a couple of moves before this week's MLB trade deadline, but they could use more help.
Boston's biggest area of need becomes more apparent each series, as it's evident that their bullpen is taxed, and while adding James Paxton to push Cooper Criswell to the bullpen should alleviate some pressure, it's just not enough.
The Red Sox know it's an issue and have reportedly been talking to other teams about their relievers.
According to Peter Gammons, the Red Sox had been "in the bidding" for Toronto Blue Jays reliever Nate Pearson before he was traded to the Chicago Cubs on Saturday.
Pearson, 27, was a first-round draft pick of the Blue Jays in 2017 and made his debut with the team in 2020.
In 41 appearances this season, the right-handed pitcher has posted a 5.63 ERA (4.62 FIP) and a 1.550 WHIP in 40 innings while striking out 40 batters.
Boston needs to add at least one more pitcher, and with reports that they're talking to the Los Angeles Angels about Luis Garcia, they could make a deal on Sunday.
