The 2024 MLB draft is just days away, and the Boston Red Sox will have a chance to add a talented player to their organization who could change the course of their franchise for the next two decades.
As we draw nearer to Sunday, more and more mock drafts are coming out, including a three-rounder from Sporting News' Edward Sutelan.
In his mock, the Red Sox grabbed Florida State outfielder James Tibbs with pick No. 12 in the first round.
Here's what Sutelan wrote about the potential selection:
"A year ago, the Red Sox selected a bat-first catcher in Kyle Teel. Here, they keep the trend going with a bat-first player, this time in outfielder James Tibbs. Boston has a track record of going batters in the first round, and Tibbs' polished approach and above-average power make him a top bat to select in the class, even if there are questions about how effective he'll be as a defender."
Tibbs, 21, was the ACC Player of the Year in 2024, hitting .363 with a 1.265 OPS, 28 HRs, 95 RBIs and eight stolen bases.
Sutelan has Boston following that up with Tennessee right-handed pitcher Drew Beam at No. 50 in the second and Florida shortstop Colby Shelton at No. 86 in the third.
Beam, 21, won the College World Series this year with the Volunteers. In 19 starts this year, he posted a 4.22 ERA and a 1.273 WHIP while striking out 99 in 102.1 innings of work.
Shelton, 21, hit .254 with a .925 OPS, 20 HRs, 56 RBIs and six stolen bases while committing just six errors in his 66 games for Florida this year.
