The Boston Red Sox have been a better team than anyone projected this year, and while they have a lot of talent on their roster, eyes are still on their prospects down in Double-A Portland.
This week, MLB Pipeline released their latest Top 100 prospect rankings, and the Red Sox had two players listed - shortstop Marcelo Mayer (No. 7) and outfielder Roman Anthony (No. 14).
Mayer has been great this year in Portland, hitting .307 with an .851 OPS, seven home runs, 36 RBIs and 13 stolen bases in 68 games.
Anthony has been solid in his 60 games in Double-A, hitting .246 with a .7099 OPS, eight home runs, 24 RBIs and six stolen bases.
The Red Sox are one of six teams with multiple players in the top 15 with only the Baltimore Orioles having more (three).
It's interesting that catcher Kyle Teel was nowhere to be found in these rankings, as he was No. 46 in Baseball America's rankings last month. In his 60 games in Portland, he's hit .302 with an .854 OPS, eight home runs, 48 RBIs and five stolen bases.
