When John Farrell began treatment for lymphoma, the man filling his shoes as Red Sox manager made him a promise. Once Farrell began to lose his hair, Torey Lovullo would get rid of his, too.

Friday was that day for Farrell, so Lovullo showed up at Fenway Park on Saturday with a shaved head.

"You'll see him — he doesn't have much hair right now," Lovullo told reporters, via MassLive. "It's all an adjustment for us. But I made a commitment to him when he told me he was going to go through this process that I'd shave my head when he got to that point. And yesterday was that point. But he's doing good."

Lovullo and Farrell have known each other for a long time, dating to their playing days together with the Angels in the early 1990s. Lovullo also served on Farrell's coaching staff in Toronto and was named bench coach when Farrell took over as Boston's manager. He has served as the Red Sox manager since Farrell announced Aug. 14 that he was stepping away from the team to undergo treatment for cancer.
