The Boston Red Sox  lose their final game against the Kansas City Royals 8-4, but win the series 2-1.

This game looked rocky at the start with the Royals getting a 2-0 head start by the 2nd inning. However, the Red Sox got the lead back the next inning with a three-run shot by Romy Gonzalez in the third, and then another dinger by Danny Jansen in the fourth, making the game 4-2.

Here’s where it got out of hand though. Sox pitcher Kutter Crawford was having a good game after he gave up those two runs, and then he kind of lost his mojo with a bad call by the umpire for a strikeout called a walk. Instead of ending the inning, it led to multiple men on base, and the next man up hit the ball and they started scoring, ending up with five runs in the bottom of the fourth.

The Sox had a couple great chances to dig into the lead, but every time they would blow it, which cost them the game.

Nevertheless, since they already won the series by winning the first two games, the Sox will win the Wildcard tiebreaker with the Royals. So if the Royals and Sox have the same record in the Wildcard race, the Sox will win.

The Sox play their next series at Fenway against the Houston Astros on Friday, August 9th at 7:10pm.
