Red Sox announce lineup without star first baseman for series opener vs. Yankees image

After the Boston Red Sox took two of three games from the Baltimore Orioles at Fenway Park, they'll hit the road for a four-game series against the New York Yankees in The Bronx starting on Thursday.

For the matchup, Boston will send Cooper Criswell to the mound while New York will counter with Nestor Cortes.

Criswell has been all right for Boston this season, posting a 4.11 ERA and a 1.34 WHIP while striking out 66 batters over 23 appearances (17 starts). He's allowed just four earned runs in his last 18 innings (four outings). He's allowed hits to five Yankees in his career - Jazz Chisholm Jr. (1-for-1), Trent Grisham (1-for-1), Giancarlo Stanton (2-for-2), Alex Verdugo (1-for-3 with an RBI) and Anthony Volpe (1-for-3).

Cortes has been all right for New York as well in his 29 appearances (28 starts), posting a 3.97 ERA and a 1.15 WHIP while striking out 147 batters. He's allowed one or fewer runs in four of his last five outings. He's allowed hits to nine Red Sox in his career - Rafael Devers (4-for-15 with two home runs, six RBIs and three walks), Jarren Duran (2-for-7), Romy Gonzalez (4-for-5 with a solo home run), Danny Jansen (1-for-7), Tyler O'Neill (1-for-6 with an RBI and a walk), Rob Refsnyder (8-for-16 with an RBI), Trevor Story (1-for-2 with a solo home run), Enmanuel Valdez (1-for-2) and Connor Wong (3-for-9 with an RBI).
