After splitting the two games with the Toronto Blue Jays and having the third suspended until a later date, the Boston Red Sox are set to host the San Deigo Padres for the first of three games at Fenway Park on Friday.
For the matchup, Boston will send Nick Pivetta to the mound while San Diego will counter with Randy Vasquez.
Here's what Alex Cora's lineup will look like for the meeting:
- Jarren Duran CF
- David Hamilton 2B
- Wilyer Abreu RF
- Rafael Devers 3B
- Tyler O’Neill LF
- Masataka Yoshida DH
- Connor Wong C
- Dom Smith 1B
- Ceddanne Rafaela SS
Pivetta has been solid for Boston this year, posting a 4.06 ERA and a 1.16 WHIP while striking out 64 in his 11 starts. In his last outing, he gave up three earned runs on six hits and two walks to the Cincinnati Reds over 4 1/3 innings. Six Padres have recorded hits off of him in his career - Luis Arraez (2-for-6 with two RBIs), Kyle Higashioka (4-for-8 with a solo home run), Ha-Seong Kim (1-for-1), Manny Machado (1-for-7 with an RBI), David Peralta (4-for-12 with two RBIs and two walks) and Tyler Wade (2-for-6).
Vasquez hasn't been great for San Diego in his 10 starts this year, recording a 5.10 ERA and a 1.68 WHIP while striking out 31. His last outing was arguably his best of the year, throwing five scoreless while allowing just five hits and three walks. Devers (1-for-2 with a solo home run) is the only Red Sox to record a hit against him.
