The Boston Red Sox, down 0-2 and on the brink of elimination in the ALDS, got a reprieve Sunday from Mother Nature.

Persistent rain and a forecast for even more inclement weather caused Boston's game versus the Indians to be postponed until Monday at 6:08 p.m. ET.

Game 4, which had originally been slated for Monday, will now be played Tuesday, if necessary.

Game 3 of the ALDS was originally scheduled to start at 4:08 p.m. ET on Sunday, but heavy rain drenched Fenway Park, and forecasts calling for a 90 percent chance of rain into the evening hours prompted the decision.

Baseball writers spent the rainy day debating which team would benefit most from a postponement.

So for Red Sox fans worried that Sunday might be David Ortiz's last game, you have at least one more day of Big Papi to cherish.
