On Saturday afternoon, the Boston Red Sox and New York Yankees met at Yankee Stadium for the third game of their four-game series.
With Gerrit Cole on the bump for the Yankees, Boston's third baseman Rafael Devers had to be excited, as entering the game, he was 14-for-41 (.341) with eight home runs, 19 RBIs and seven walks against Cole.
Cole hit Devers with a pitch in the first inning, and then in the top of the fourth, he showed just how much the third baseman terrifies him. With one out and the bases empty, Cole intentionally walked Devers. That came back to bite him, as Devers stole second and allowed three runs in the inning.

According to J.P. Long, this is just the sixth time that a Red Sox has been intentionally walked with the bases empty since 1953. The other five times were Ted Williams (1953), Carl Yastrzremski (1970), Manny Ramirez (2001, twice) and David Ortiz (2016).
The last time Cole intentionally walked a batter in the regular season was in 2017, per Erica Block.
Devers drove in two with the bases loaded in the top of the fifth inning, and Cole was removed from the game after giving up seven runs in 4 2/3 innings.
