With Nick Pivetta on the injured list, the Boston Red Sox are in need of a starter for Saturday's game against the Los Angeles Angels at Fenway Park.
The team has called up Cooper Criswell from Triple-A Worcester to get the start after placing Romy Gonzalez on the 10-day injured list with a wrist sprain.
Criswell made two starts in Triple-A, allowing just one earned run in 10 1/3 innings pitched. He appeared in 12 games over the last three seasons for the Angels and the Tampa Bay Rays, posting a 5.97 ERA in 37 2/3 innings.
Boston signed him this offseason to a one-year deal.
Here's who the Red Sox will trot out behind Criswell:
- Jarren Duran LF
- Wilyer Abreu RF
- Masataka Yoshida DH
- Triston Casas 1B
- Bobby Dalbec 3B
- Enmanuel Valdez 2B
- Ceddanne Rafaela CF
- Reese McGuire C
- David Hamilton SS
If Boston loses Saturday's matchup, they will have lost the series, making it two in a row.
