The Boston Red Sox are set to take on the Cleveland Guardians for the fourth and final game of the series at Fenway Park on Thursday, but with multiple starting pitchers on the injured list, they're making a change to their rotation.

AccordigBoston announced that lefty reliever Brennan Bernardino will be used as the team's opener for the series finale against Cleveland, matching up against Carlos Carrasco.

After surprisingly starting the year in Triple-A Worcester, Bernardino has posted a 1.69 ERA in 5 1/3 innings out of the bullpen for the major-league club.

This will not be Bernardino's first foray into opening duties. In 2023, he made six starts for Boston, pitching nine innings and giving up just two earned runs while striking out 14.

At 10-9 and just 3-6 at home, the Red Sox need to start making smart plays and taking advantage of opportunities granted to them by their opponents. It's hard to do with the amount of injuries the team has suffered already, but they should still be able to compete.
