The Boston Red Sox returned to the Rogers Centre on Tuesday for the second of three games against the Toronto Blue Jays and secured a 4-3 victory over the division rival.
Boston's arms were solid, as starter Tanner Houck allowed just three runs (two earned) on six hits and two walks while striking out five over 5 2/3 innings. That was followed by scoreless appearances by Zack Kelly (1 1/3 inning), Brennan Bernardino (2/3 inning), Justin Slaten (1/3 inning) and Kenley Jansen (one inning). Kelly earned his first win of the year, and Jansen locked down his 13th save despite not getting many opportunities.
The Red Sox got RBIs from Dominic Smith (2-for-4) and Masataka Yoshida (1-for-4) in the first six innings. Tyler O'Neill (2-for-4) tied the game in the eighth with a solo home run (his third this series) and Ceddanne Rafaela (3-for-4) gave them the lead just a few batters later.
This win gives Boston a 39-35 record on the season and 21-15 on the road. They also earned a series win (their third in a row) and extended their win streak to four games (only their third four-game win streak of the year). The Red Sox and Blue Jays will meet again on Wednesday for the series finale.
