The Boston Red Sox were defeated by the Orioles 7-5 at Fenway Park on Wednesday in what was one of the most frustrating games of the young season.
Starting pitcher Kutter Crawford threw five scoreless innings for Boston, but he wasn't very efficient, allowing two hits and walking four batters. He even tweaked his knee on his final out, but he doesn't believe he'll miss any time.
During that time the Red Sox built up a 5-0 lead due to an incredible display of base-running by Jarren Duran on a shallow pop-up by Tyler O'Neill, a two-run single by Connor Wong and a two-run home run by Triston Casas.
From there on, Boston's offense was shut out, and their pitching left a lot to be desired.
Reliever Isaiah Campbell, who had been perfect before Wednesday, was knocked around for three runs on four hits in his one inning of work, and Chris Martin, who, prior to his last appearance against the Los Angeles Angels, hadn't given up a run since last July, allowed another four runs (three earned) in just one inning.
Against a real big-league club, the Red Sox just haven't looked as good as they did during their West Coast trip.
If Boston can't win on Thursday with Garrett Whitlock on the mound, they'll be swept for the first time this season, and all of the good vibes that were built during the team's first 10 games will be erased completely.
