The 2024 Boston Red Sox entered Saturday with a chance to become the first team in franchise history to lose their first five games at home, but they pulled out a 7-2 win over the Los Angeles Angels to end their four-game losing streak.
Boston tapped Cooper Criswell for the start after he was recalled from Triple-A Worcester. He went four innings, giving up two runs (a two-run home run by Taylor Ward), five hits and a walk while striking out four.
Behind him, Greg Weissert (who earned the win), Josh Winckowski and Joely Rodriguez pitched the remaining five innings without allowing a run.
The Red Sox offense found themselves on Saturday, with eight different players recording a hit.
RBIs came from Jarren Duran (0-for-3), Wilyer Abreu (2-for-4), Masataka Yoshida (two RBIs on 2-for-4), Triston Casas (two RBIs on a two-run moonshot to right) and Ceddanne Rafaela (1-for-3).
Boston will take on the Angels in the series finale on Sunday with the victor earning a series win. The Red Sox are expected to send Brayan Bello to the mound, while the Angels will start Tyler Anderson.
