On Thursday night, the Boston Red Sox welcomed the Oakland Athletics to Fenway Park for the final game of their three-game set, and Alex Cora's squad earned a 7-0 win to take the series.
Red Sox starter Tanner Houck bounced back with a strong start, tossing six scoreless innings, giving up just two hits and three walks while striking out six. Chase Anderson followed in relief, pitching the last three innings, giving up just two hits and striking out five.
Boston's offense was potent with Masataka Yoshida (3-for-4 with a two-run home run) driving in four, Wilyer Abreu (3-for-3 with a solo home run) driving in two and Connor Wong (2-for-3 with a solo shot) scoring one. David Hamilton (2-for-4) also showed off his speed, beating out an infield single to first base.
This win improves Boston's record to 51-41 overall and 22-24 at Fenway. They're 5.5 games out of first place in the AL East, and they'll now host the Kansas City Royals for another three games starting on Friday.
