On Tuesday night, the Boston Red Sox downed the Oakland Athletics 12-9 in a game that was too close for comfort after building an 11-2 lead in the second inning at Fenway Park.
This victory, however, had some extra juice to it, as it was win No. 490 for Alex Cora as manager of the Red Sox, moving him past Bill Carrigan (1913-16, 1927-29) for fourth in team history.
Cora now has just three ahead of him Mike Higgins (560), Terry Francona (744) and Joe Cronin (1,071).
If both he and the team were willing to continue working together beyond the 2024 season, Cora would definitely be able to pass Higgins by the end of next year.
However, it feels this may be as high as Cora gets on this list.
