The Rangers are sending outfielder Leonys Martin and right-handed reliever Anthony Bass to the Mariners in exchange for right-handed reliever Tom Wilhelmsen, outfielder James Jones and a player to be named later, both teams announced Monday.

Martin had been on a downward spiral last season, appearing in just 95 games after playing a combined 302 games in the 2013 and 2014 seasons. He was demoted to Triple-A Round Rock in August after being outshined by rookie Delino DeShields. He later underwent surgery on Aug. 26 to repair a fractured hamate bone before returning to the active roster Sept. 20. He played in just one of the team's remaining 14 games.

Wilhelmsen finished last season with a 3.19 ERA and 2-2 record for the Mariners, striking out 60 batters over 62 innings. He has compiled 67 saves over the past four years and has 267 career appearances, 265 of which were relief appearances.

Jones had just 31 plate appearances last season after playing 108 games the previous year. He hit nine doubles and five triples in 328 plate appearances in 2014, adding 27 stolen bases.
