It's a heavyweight matchup in the fourth quarterfinal of the World Baseball Classic as Puerto Rico takes on Mexico.
Puerto Rico finished 3-1 in pool play and the Pool D runner-up to 4-0 Venezuela. Mexico comes into this contest also holding a 3-1 record but were the Pool C winners thanks to having the tiebreaker over the second place Team USA.
Dodgers pitcher Julio Urias, who hasn't pitched since the team's first game against Colombia, is expected to get the start for the Mexicans. He tossed four perfect innings before surrendering three runs in the fifth. Puerto Rico has not revealed who will get the nod for them.
On paper, these two teams match up pretty well as both lineups have put forth similar offensive outputs thus far through four games. Outfielder Randy Arozarena has been putting on a show recently, notching two hits and five RBIs in the clinching game for Mexico. He's batting .500 for the tournament.
Puerto Rico, on the other hand, comes into this game dealing with some adversity that came during the postgame celebration on Wednesday night. The team's closer, Edwin Diaz, suffered what appeared to be a significant injury which ended with the Mets star being placed in a wheelchair to get off the field. While the Mets and Puerto Rico hold their breath, the latter will have to rely on shortstop Francisco Lindor to carry the load offensively while they adjust the pitching staff.
