The Pittsburgh Pirates made a last-minute deal ahead of Major League Baseball's trade deadline Tuesday, acquiring superutility player Isiah Kiner-Falefa from the Toronto Blue Jays.

Even though Kiner-Falefa has been on the injured list since the start of July due to a left knee sprain, the Pirates felt the need to add him to the roster ahead of the deadline.

In exchange, the Pirates sent outfield prospect Charles McAdoo to the Blue Jays.

The news was first reported by Jeff Passan of ESPN.

Kiner-Falefa is enjoying a career season in his first campaign with the Blue Jays. He has a career-high 115 OPS+, which is much higher than his 84 career average.

The 29-year-old can play just about any position on the field, and brings with him a .292 batting average, seven home runs, 33 RBI and a .758 OPS.

Kiner-Falefa is under contract through the 2025 season and will be owed $7.5 million.

McAdoo, 22, has spent the last 27 games in Double-A, slashing .269/.348/.490/.838 with five home runs, six doubles, 11 RBI and 13 walks. He was the No. 29 prospect in the Pirates organization entering the season, according to MLB Pipeline.
