Phillies left-hander Daniel Stumpf, 25, has been suspended for 80 games, effective immediately, after testing positive for a performance-enhancing substance, MLB commissioner Rob Manfred's office announced.

Stumpf — who tested positive for dehydrochlormethyltestosterone, an anabolic steroid — has made three appearances for the Phillies (4-5) this season. After an opening day appearance against the Reds in which he gave up a homer that ballooned his ERA to 81.00, he made two hitless and scoreless appearances that cut his ERA in half, to 40.50.

A tweeted statement from the Phillies said they "support Major League Baseball's Joint Prevention and Treatment Program and are disappointed to hear today's news of Daniel's violation.”

The Phillies called up left-hander Elvis Araujo, 23, from Triple-A Lehigh Valley to take Stumpf's roster spot. Araujo was 2-1 with a 3.38 ERA in 34 2/3 innings covering 40 games as a rookie for the Phillies in 2015.
