J.T. Realmuto is looking to stay in Philly.
Speaking Tuesday after the MLB All-Star Game in Cleveland, the Phillies catcher expressed his desire to sign a contract extension with the team after being traded to Philadelphia from the Marlins in February.
“I’m definitely not opposed,” Realmuto said, via the Philadelphia Inquirer. “Everything I’ve experienced in Philadelphia has been awesome, so I wouldn’t be opposed to spending the rest of my career there.”
While an extension could likely be prioritized this offseason, Realmuto, the team's lone representative at Tuesday’s All-Star Game, doesn't have a deadline.
“The timing doesn’t really matter for me. I just show up and play baseball every day,” Realmuto said. “If an extension comes, it comes, whether it be tomorrow or in the off-season or next July, the timing doesn’t matter too much.”
Realmuto, 28, was dealt to the Phillies for top-30 prospect Sixto Sanchez, former top prospect catcher Jorge Alfaro, pitcher Will Stewart and international slot money this offseason.
He is slashing .273/.328/.438 with 10 home runs and 42 RBIs through 85 games played this season.
