Phillies outfielder Aaron Altherr hit a rare inside-the-park grand slam Friday against the Nationals.

Altherr benefited from a rather poor choice by Nationals center fielder Michael A. Taylor to dive for the ball, but it still counts.

"My heart stopped a little bit," Altherr said of his reaction to Taylor's dive, per MLB.com. "Then I saw it go by and I was like, 'Oh, man, I might have a chance here.' I just tried to run as fast as I could. I saw Rock (third base coach John Mizerock) still sending me home when I was about halfway to third, so I was like, 'I might have a chance here.' I tried to get there as fast as I could."

This is the first inside-the-park grand slam in MLB since Randy Winn did it for the Devil Rays against the Yankees on Oct. 3, 1999, and the first Phillie to do it since since Ted Kazanski against the Giants on Aug. 8, 1956.

His next time up, Altherr homered over the fence. He finished with four hits and five RBIs in Philly's 8-2 victory.

"I've felt pretty good the past couple days," Altherr said, per MLB.com. "Hopefully I can keep riding that feeling the rest of the year."
