MLB great Pedro Martinez said he supports the development of women playing in the majors.

Martinez said Friday at the launch of a new girls baseball program in Boston that female athletes should have a chance to play in the Big Leagues.

“I just saw a picture of a team during the winter… ladies playing baseball," Martinez said via BostonMagazine.com. "That’s good to see, I’m pushing them, I’m behind them. So they have a cheerleader right here — let’s go girls!”

Mo'ne Davis' successful summer led some to believe that women should be able to compete with men in pro baseball. Davis was the first girl to pitch a no-hitter in the Little League World Series and the first African-American girl to play in the annual competition.

When asked about women playing in MLB one day: “I wouldn’t doubt it,” Martinez said.
