Padres trade offer for White Sox ace was 'quickly dismissed', per insider image

Looking to bolster their starting rotation, the San Diego Padres reportedly made an offer for one of the best pitchers in the American League.

According to Bob Nightengale of USA Today Sports, the Padres made an offer to the Chicago White Sox for ace Garrett Crochet ahead of the MLB trade deadline.

However, that offer was "quickly dismissed," according to Nightengale.

The top of the rotation for the Padres is currently a massive question mark. Joe Musgrove is dealing with elbow inflammation and Yu Darvish is currently away from the team tending to a personal matter.

Though Dylan Cease is still there to lead the rotation, it makes sense the Padres would be looking to add another ace to the staff.

Crochet has been one of the best pitchers in the American League this season with 150 strikeouts and a 3.02 ERA in 107.1 innings across 20 starts this season.

Holding the worst record in MLB at 27-71, the White Sox are expected to be massive sellers at the deadline. They'll get quite the haul for Crochet, who just turned 25 years old and comes with team control through the 2026 season.

The Padres are right on the cusp of going either way this season so it will be interesting to see what decisions they make as the deadline approaches.
