Padres outfielder Tommy Pham was stabbed Sunday night in San Diego, the San Diego Union-Tribune reported Monday. He suffered no organ damage and required only stitches to treat a wound in his lower back, according to the report.

Union-Tribune sources said Pham's injury occurred after he stepped out of an establishment and asked two people who were arguing near his car to move; one of the individuals then stabbed Pham. The sources said he did not know the people.

The Padres said Pham was treated at UC San Diego Health.

"While it was a very traumatic and eye-opening experience for me, I’m on the road to recovery and I know I’ll be back to my offseason training routine in no time," Pham said in a statement released by the Padres (per the Union-Tribune).

San Diego police are searching for suspects.

Pham, 32, was back in San Diego after playing in Arlington, Texas, last week against the Dodgers in the NLDS. The Padres were eliminated Thursday.

This was Pham's first season with the Padres. He was acquired from the Rays last December in an offseason trade, playing in just 31 games for San Diego and putting up a .211/.312/.312 slash line with three home runs and six stolen bases. He missed a month with a broken bone in his left wrist.

Pham is eligible for salary arbitration this offseason.
