The Padres ended the 2023 season with an 82-80 record, which was not enough to win the NL West or secure a playoff spot. The team then spent the offseason looking for a new manager when Bob Melvin left to join a rival in the Giants. Trading Juan Soto to the Yankees was also an unexpected move.

With the Soto trade, the Padres were able to secure pitchers Michael King, Randy Vasquez, Jhony Brito and Drew Thorpe, as well as catcher Kyle Higashioka. The team also hired former NL Manager of the Year Mike Shildt to be its new skipper, hoping he can help manage young and impactful stars like Xander Bogaerts, Manny Machado, and Fernando Tatis Jr.

While the regulars look to do the heavy lifting, the Padres’ farm system looks to impress as the team attempts to fight against the mighty Dodgers and the rising Diamondbacks.

First, the team must evaluate all its players and form a strategy for the season. That will start in spring training in Peoria, Arizona.

Here's everything you need to know to catch the Padres in action as they prepare for the new season:

Padres spring training schedule 2024

Padres pitchers and catchers began workouts in Peoria on Feb. 11, with the rest of the roster joining in on Feb. 16.

Cactus League games begin a few days later, on Thursday, Feb. 22, at the Peoria Sports Complex against the Dodgers. Those two teams are starting off the MLB spring training slate and will also play the first regular-season games, March 20 and 21 at Seoul, South Korea.

Thanks to that trip, San Diego's exhibition season will also include games in Korea against the Korean Baseball Organization All-Star Team (March 17) and reigning KBO champion LG Twins (March 18).

The spring training slate concludes with a pair of games against the Mariners at Petco Park after the team returns from Korea. The Padres open the regular season at home against the Giants on March 28.

For baseball fans making the trek for spring training, you can score tickets for every game on StubHub. Those unable to attend in person in Arizona will have ample opportunity to watch the Padres. The team will air several games on Padres.TV and produce video webcasts for the official team website. Check there for more details. In addition, the team's first two spring training and regular-season games will air on ESPN, which is available on Fubo
