The Baltimore Orioles are considered one of the top contenders to win the World Series this year.
Baltimore is loaded with exciting young talent and has been one of the top teams in baseball all year. The Orioles have a bright future and a great farm system and should leverage this to go all in at the trade deadline.
The Orioles have dealt with injuries in the starting rotation this year and likely are one frontline starter away from being considered the overall favorite to win the World Series. One player who could be that guy is Detroit Tigers ace Tarik Skubal.
He is the favorite to win the American League Cy Young Award and still is young and under team control. It's not often a player of his caliber is available, but there have been rumblings that the Tigers could move him.
A trade still should be considered unlikely, but not impossible. Baltimore even was mentioned as a possible landing spot for Skubal by The Athletic's Aaron Gleeman and Tim Britton.
"Tarik Skubal got healthy and broke through as one of the best handful of pitchers in baseball, leading the majors in ERA and ranking third in strikeout rate since the beginning of last season by pounding the zone with high-octane, bat-missing raw stuff," Britton and Gleeman said. "With two more years of control remaining, the questions are how likely the Tigers think contending in 2025 and 2026 will be and whether they have any shot of extending him.
"Skubal would fetch a massive trade haul, but at 27 he's also precisely the type of Cy Young-Award-level stud any team should be trying to build around. Potential landing spots: Baltimore Orioles, Los Angeles Dodgers, (and) New York Yankees."
Baltimore has the top farm system in baseball and there aren't enough positions on the field for each of its top prospects to make the jump to the big leagues with the Orioles. Skubal is the type of pitcher who goes all in for. Baltimore should at least see what a deal would cost.
