Cubs manager Joe Maddon announced Sunday that Kyle Hendricks will start Game 3 of the NLCS, and Jason Hammel is the favorite to start Game 4.

Hendricks, who went 8-7 with a 3.95 ERA during the regular season, gave up three solo home runs in 4 2/3 innings in Game 2 of the NLDS. The Cubs went on to beat the Cardinals 6-3.

Maddon wouldn't commit to a Game 4 starter during Sunday's news conference but did say Hammel will get the first crack at it, assuming he doesn't make a relief appearance before then.

"More than likely (Hammel) will pitch Game 4 but I still want to talk to him and play it all the way through," Maddon said, via ESPN.

Hammel went 10-7 with a 3.74 ERA during the regular season but lasted just three innings in his Game 4 start against the Cardinals in the NLDS.
