New York Yankees relief pitcher Tommy Kahnle took a big step in his recovery from a shoulder injury, commencing a rehab assignment this week.

Kahnle, who started the season on the injured list with shoulder inflammation, began an injury rehab assignment with Low-A Tampa Tarpons on May 8.

The Yankees' late-innings reliever struck out two while throwing 12 pitches in his only inning of work with the Tarpons.

Considering how much the Yankees need more strikeouts from their bullpen, Kahnle's recovery is a massive development.

We'll see how he recovers from this first rehab assignment, and it's unclear how much more work he'll need after missing the majority of spring training.

Regardless, this was a step in the positive direction in order to get Kahnle back on the active roster.
