The New York Yankees are going to be extremely competitive in the bid to re-sign star Juan Soto in free agency, but there are going to be several potential suitors.
The Yankees expect to be in a pretty big bidding war this offseason if they don't re-sign Soto during the season, and a report from Jon Heyman of The New York Post includes a handful of rival teams set up to compete for Soto's services.
"Though there’s sure to be outside interest in 25-year-old superstar Juan Soto — the Mets, Dodgers, Phillies, and Red Sox are obvious potential outside suitors — some rival GMs are starting to wonder if there’s a real chance he’d leave the Yankees," Heyman wrote.
Most of these teams have been linked as potential suitors for Soto. Losing a special player like this would be a tough blow regardless. But losing to Soto to any of these teams—especially the Red Sox—would be incredibly crushing.
The Yankees will be prepared for anything when it comes to the bidding war for Soto. He's already proven he can play in the Bronx while doing so at an MVP level.
Entering Saturday, Soto has a .304 average with 18 home runs, 56 RBI, 60 walks and a .995 OPS.
