New York Yankees starting pitcher Gerrit Cole will resume throwing this week as he aims to play catch for the first time since being shut down with an elbow injury during Spring Training.
Manager Aaron Boone told reporters Sunday ahead of the rubber match between the Yankees and Toronto Blue Jays that he wasn't sure if it will be Monday or Tuesday when Cole plans to resume throwing.

Cole told the YES broadcast booth during the series against the Arizona Diamondbacks that he's making progress and that he's pain-free.
Dealing with nerve inflammation in his throwing elbow, Cole was placed on the 60-day injured list to begin the season. He isn't eligible to return from the injured list until May 27, which is right in the middle of a West Coast trip for the Yankees.
There has been a report that Cole is eyeing a return of June 1 from the elbow injury, but that all depends on how he feels after ramping up his throwing over the course of the next two months.
Cole will essentially need to get a similar ramp-up to that of Spring Training, which will include some minor league assignments.
When that will happen remains a mystery, but this is a positive step in the right direction to getting the ace of the staff back.
