Mets agree to 2-year deal with reliever Antonio Bastardo, report says image

The National League champion Mets have agreed to a two-year deal with relief pitcher Antonio Bastardo worth $12 million, according to MLB.com.

Bastardo was one of the most consistent relievers in baseball last year. He finished the season 4-1 with 2.98 ERA and 1.13 WHIP for the Pirates.

The Mets possess one of the best pitching staffs in MLB. But it's a young rotation, so adding a veteran like Bastardo should help ease manager Terry Collins' mind when he decides to take out his starters early in the season.

Bastardo, 30, will likely pitch in the seventh and eighth innings depending on the situation.
