The Nationals appear ready to hire Dusty Baker as their next manager, according to a report from CBS Sports, giving their search for a new skipper a twist ending.

It was reported last week that the Nationals had decided to go with former Padres manager Bud Black, but the team never announced a hire, presumably waiting until after the World Series to make it official.

The Washington Post reported that the team chose black as its manager Wednesday, but that Black was "deeply offended" by the first contract offer. Talks fell apart at that point, the Post reported. The offer was reportedly for one year and $1.6 million, according to a report from USA Today.

Sunday, Baker said that baseball is going "backwards" in its minority hiring. But that appears to be changing.
