The New York Yankees held a ceremony for legendary radio broadcaster John Sterling on Saturday, but MLB fans were a bit confused by the gift the organization gave him.
After announcing his retirement earlier this week, Sterling was honored by the Yankees with a pregame ceremony ahead of Saturday afternoon's matchup against the Tampa Bay Rays.
They gifted Sterling, who spent 36 years as the voice of the Yankees, an 83-inch TV for his retirement. It was an odd gift considering what he meant to the organization. A harmless gift and one Sterling will happily accept. But an odd gift nonetheless.

In fairness to the Yankees, they only had a few days to figure out what to get Sterling, but landing on a massive TV, of which Sterling already has five, is a bit of a peculiar gift. They also gave Sterling a sweet personalized jersey with the number 5,631, signifying the number of games he called for the Yankees.
Regardless, MLB fans certainly didn't let the Yankees get away with this one.

Yankees giving John Sterling a TV as his retirement gift is like when your boss gives you a pizza party at the end of the month instead of a bonus
