MLB trade rumors: Phillies have discussed dealing for Tigers’ Matthew Boyd, Shane Greene image

The Phillies could be looking to complete a major trade.

Philadelphia has “had conversations” with the Tigers about a potential deal for starter Matthew Boyd and closer Shane Greene, according to a report from NBC Sports Philadelphia, which cites unidentified league sources.

Greene has recorded 22 saves while Boyd holds a 6-8 record with a 4.13 ERA in 20 starts so far this season.

“It’s just noise, right?” Boyd said about the trade rumors last month. “There’s no action that needs to be taken or anything. It’s just stuff that’s out of my control, and really no stock needs to go into it until something happens. So, there’s nothing I can do.”

Philadelphia, meanwhile, has reportedly been “in contact with every team that has pitching available” and “investigated the possibility of trading for” Diamondbacks ace Zack Greinke.

The Phillies entered play Monday just 1/2 game out of the second wild-card spot but have been inconsistent this season and may not be willing to move top prospects at the July 31 deadline, president Andy MacPhail told reporters earlier this month.

“Hard for us to make the judgment now that we're one trade away from the World Series,” MacPhail said at the time, via MLB.com. “We don't believe that. I don't believe that. So, as a result, you're going to have to be more judicious with your playing talent. It doesn't mean you can't make a different type of deal, doesn't mean you can't make a deal where a component is taking on somebody's salary.”

The Phillies signed veteran free agent left-hander Drew Smyly last week.

Philadelphia and the Tigers will begin a two-game series in Detroit on Tuesday.
