MLB rumors: Giants not pursuing Max Scherzer image

The Giants have been one of the teams tied to Max Scherzer, but apparently you can scratch San Francisco off the list of teams pursuing the free-agent starter.

With on Lester signed by the Cubs, Scherzer is the top free-agent starter left of the market.  The 2013 Cy Young winner, who turns 31 in July, went 18-5 with a 3.15 ERA this past season with 252 strikeouts in 220 1/3 innings.

But his expected price tag — something along the lines of six years at $25 million a year or so — has scared teams like the Yankees away. The Tigers are interested in re-signing him, and teams like the Red Sox, Dodgers, Nationals, and Cardinals apparently have some interest.
