The Braves on Friday acquired outfielders Michael Bourn, Nick Swisher and $10 million from the Indians for third baseman Chris Johnson, the team announced.

Baseball's non-waiver trade deadline was July 31, but players can still be moved with the waiver system (here's an explanation and a suggestion of change to that process). Any player acquired by August 31 is still playoff-eligible, though in this case neither the Braves nor Indians are thinking about October this year.

This is about swapping contracts. Swisher, 34, is making $15 million this season and owed another $15 million in 2016. He is batting .198/.261/.297 through 30 games this season, and he's currently on the disabled list.

Bourn, a 32-year-old center fielder, is hitting .246/.313/.294 with 13 stolen bases in 95 games. He is making $13.5 million this season, $14 million next season, with a $12 million vesting option in 2017. He previously played for the Braves, in 2011-12, posting a .275 average and stealing 64 bases in 208 games.

Johnson is earning $6 million in 2015 and is due $17.5 million through 2017. The former starting third baseman has seen mostly a specialist's role this year; he is batting .323/.403/.747 against lefties this season, but sports a dismal .176/.224/.264 line against right-handed pitchers.

The Braves have been busy this trading season, having shipped infielders Juan Uribe and Kelly Johnson to the Mets and starting pitcher Alex Wood, relievers Jim Johnson and Luis Avilan and prospect Jose Peraza to the the Dodgers.
