MLB trade news: Giants acquire Tyler Austin from Twins image

The Giants added some pop to their lineup Monday, acquiring first baseman Tyler Austin from the Twins, the teams announced.

The Twins will get minor league outfielder Malique Ziegler from the Giants.

Austin, 27, hit 17 home runs with a .767 OPS in 244 at-bats split between the Yankees and Twins last season. Minnesota had acquired him from the Yankees in the trade that sent pitcher Lance Lynn to New York. Austin had been the Yankees' fourth-best position prospect in 2017, according to MLB.com.

Austin had only one hit in four at-bats for the Twins this season.

Ziegler, 22, opened the season with the Giants' Single-A affiliate in San Jose.

In related news, the Giants have designated infielder/outfielder Connor Joe for assignment to clear room on the roster. Joe, formerly of the Dodgers' organization, registered just one hit in his stint with San Francisco.
