The New York Yankees have been among the teams most often linked to Chicago White Sox ace Garrett Crochet ahead of the MLB trade deadline.
Though teams will have to decide on how to use the young lefty as he enters unknown territory with his innings pitched, Crochet is still one of the most valuable pieces available.
And it appears he's officially on the trading block for the 24-62 White Sox entering July.
According to Bob Nightengale of USA TODAY Sports, Crochet and the White Sox "quietly engaged in brief contract extension talks" to no avail.
However, with no advancements in those talks, Nightengale reported that the White Sox "intend to trade him by the July 30 trade deadline."
Nightengale also mentioned that 15 teams have already reached out inquiring about a potential trade for Crochet, including an offer from the Los Angeles Dodgers.
Considering Crochet's upside, talent and team control through the 2026 season, the Yankees would need to give a considerable haul that includes a handful of top prospects.
Crochet has been one of the most electric pitchers in baseball since switching from the bullpen to the starting rotation. His 141 strikeouts leads MLB, and he holds a 6-6 record with a 3.02 ERA to go along with a very impressive 0.93 WHIP.
The Yankees need help in the bullpen, but it wouldn't be a bad idea if they also viewed Crochet as a starter for a bit down the stretch.
We're officially in the final month of trades so this will be something to monitor.
