Each night in the 2016 baseball season, we'll run down the top news, facts and highlights from action around Major League Baseball.

Making his MLB debut, Yankees right-hander Chad Green lasted just four innings Monday against the Diamondbacks, allowing six runs (four earned) on eight hits.

Green posted a 1.22 ERA over seven starts at Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre but fell victim to All-Star Paul Goldschmidt, who hammered a home run on the first pitch of a first-inning at-bat. Green later allowed a three-run homer to the red-hot Jake Lamb before exiting with no outs in the fifth.

The Yankees' bats did little to help Green as D-backs southpaw Robbie Ray stymied New York over seven innings, allowing two runs on six hits with six punchouts in a 12-2 win.

Player of the day

Indians catcher Yan Gomes went 2 for 4 with a home run and four RBIs in a 15-6 win over the Reds.

Highlight

Braves shortstop Erick Aybar barehands a ball that deflects off Williams Perez's glove and fires to first to get Pittsburgh's David Freese.

Three things to know

— Yankees slugger Alex Rodriguez (hamstring) is expected to be activated from the disabled list Thursday for a matchup with the Athletics.

— The Indians enjoyed season highs in runs (15) and hits (19). The 15 runs tie a franchise record against Cincinnati (2004).

— Angels ace Garrett Richards has opted to receive a stem-cell injection and rehab his right elbow rather than have Tommy John surgery. He will be re-evaluated in six weeks.

What's next

Nationals (23-15) at Mets (21-16), 7:10 p.m. ET — In his last start, Nationals pitcher Max Scherzer (4-2, 4.15 ERA) became the fourth pitcher with 20 strikeouts in a nine-inning game. On Tuesday he will look for another dominant outing in an NL East showdown with fellow right-handed flamethrower Noah Syndergaard (3-2, 2.53 ERA) and the Mets.

Astros (15-24) at White Sox (24-14), 8:10 p.m. ET — Reigning Cy Young winner Dallas Keuchel (2-5, 5.58 ERA) as been abysmal to begin the season, going 0-4 with a 7.98 ERA in his past four starts. The lefty will look to rebound against fellow southpaw Carlos Rodon (1-4, 4.99 ERA) and the AL Central leading White Sox.
