Each night in the 2016 baseball season, we'll run down the top news, facts and highlights from action around Major League Baseball.

As we learned in the Home Run Derby, Marlins slugger Giancarlo Stanton can absolutely crush a baseball. But he hasn't hit a long ball since winning the Derby — until tonight.

Stanton hit a no-doubter in the third inning against Mets starter Jacob deGrom at Marlins Park. The two-run shot left Stanton's bat at 115.8 mph and traveled 441 feet as it hit off an auxiliary scoreboard outside of left field.

Stanton went on to add three more hits for his first four-hit game since 2012 as he drove in three runs to give ace Jose Fernandez all the run support he needed in a 7-2 win.

Fernandez improved to 26-1 with a 1.47 ERA over his career at Marlins Park after holding the Mets to just two runs over seven innings of work. The right-hander struckout seven as he improved to 12-4 on the year.

Player of the day

Nelson Cruz, Mariners: With a grand slam and a three-run homer, the slugger plated half of the Mariners' 14 runs in a blowout win over Blue Jays.
