Red Sox slugger Hanley Ramirez crushed a three-run walkoff home run to cap a five-run ninth inning against the Yankees in a 7-5 victory Thursday night at Fenway Park.

David Ortiz and Mookie Betts hit RBI singles against Yankees closer Dellin Betances before Ramirez blasted a 3-1 pitch to dead center with two outs.

Boston's late-inning momentum began with an eighth-inning solo homer by Ortiz, who passed Mickey Mantle for 17th on the all-time home run list with No. 537. The homer was Big Papi's 34th this year, tying the record for most home runs by a player in their age 40 season.

Ramirez's blast was the Red Sox's third walkoff hit this season and their first walkoff home run since June 18, 2014.

The win, paired with a loss by the Orioles, gave the Red Sox a two-game cushion in the AL East standings. 

Player of the Day

Andrew McCutchen, OF Pirates — McCutchen homered twice, drove in three runs and scored three times in the Bucs' 15-2 rout of the Phillies. The 15 runs were the most in a game by the Pirates against the Phillies since 1967. 

Highlight

Carlos Sanchez hit a blooper to right field for a walkoff single to give the White Sox a 2-1 victory over the Indians.

— Rays third baseman Evan Longoria's five RBIs against the Orioles are tied for the second-highest total of his MLB career (most since 2011).

— The Royals have allowed eight or more runs in three of their last four games, including a sweep by the A's. The defending World Series champions allowed eight or more just twice in their previous 38 games.

— The benches cleared in Dodgers-Diamondbacks after Rich Hill yelled at Archie Bradley for pitching him inside as he attempted to bunt. No punches were thrown in the incident.

Rays (63-83) at Orioles (80-66), 7:05 p.m. ET: Hoping to hand Chris Archer (8-18, 4.05 ERA) a franchise-worst 19th loss, the Orioles will send the rejuvenated Ubaldo Jimenez (7-11, 5.98 ERA) to the mound looking stay ahead of the Blue Jays in the wild-card standings. 

Tigers (78-68) at Indians (84-62), 7:10 p.m. ET: In the opener of a three-game series with playoff implications, Michael Fulmer (10-6, 2.76 ERA) and the Tigers will face off against the AL Central-leading Indians. Corey Kluber (16-9, 3.05 ERA) will look to give Detroit its fifth loss over the past seven games.
