The Boston Red Sox made the decision to option infielder Bobby Dalbec to Triple-A Worcester on Monday, and in a corresponding move, they decided to add Romy Gonzalez to the big league roster, according to Chris Henrique of Beyond the Monster.
Gonzalez, 27, was selected by the Chicago White Sox in the 18th round of the 2018 amateur draft. He made his MLB debut in 2021 and spent the last three seasons with the club, hitting .222 with a .600 OPS (three home runs and 10 RBIs).
Through eight games with the WooSox, Gonzalez ranks fifth in the International League in RBIs (10), third in home runs (three), sixth in slugging percentage (.821), 10th in OPS (1.196), sixth in total bases (23) and tied for first in triples (two).
With Trevor Story on the 10-day IL with a shoulder dislocation, Gonzalez could be the team's starter at the position in the interim.
