MLB to review Chase Utley's controversial slide image

MLB chief baseball officer Joe Torre says Chase Utley’s controversial slide will be reviewed by league officials.

Torre, a former Dodgers manager, attended Saturday’s Game 2 in which LA evened its series with New York.

"I'd hate to think that Utley tried to hurt somebody,” Torre told reporters. "It certainly was late. That concerns me. The lateness of the slide. ... I'm looking at it to see if anything should be done.

"I have to determine if I thought it was excessive," he said. "Not that you shouldn't slide hard, but as I said, just the late slide is probably the only thing that is in question right now.”

Mets shortstop Ruben Tejada suffered a broken leg on the play in the seventh inning.

As for what recourse he might have, Torre didn’t specify any action that could be taken other than to say he hoped to determine if the slide was excessive.
