The Tigers have reportedly begun serious discussions with free-agent starting pitcher Jordan Zimmermann, according to Fox Sports.

Zimmermann, who posted a 13-10 record with a 3.66 ERA and 164 strikeouts in 201 1/3 innings last season, would instantly be Detroit's No. 2 pitcher behind Justin Verlander. The Tigers' rotation went from one of the best ino baseball to a liability last season and Zimmermann would help get them back in the right direction.

During his seven-year career, all of which has been spent with the Nationals, Zimmermann is 70-50 with a splendid 3.32 ERA. He could also become the first pitcher to sign a $100 million deal after having Tommy John surgery.
