RUMOR: The Astros and Orioles have entered the race to sign Yovani Gallardo, the top remaining free-agent starting pitcher.

DETAILS: Teams have shown varying interest in Gallardo throughout the offseason, but whether they didn't like what they saw or Gallardo wasn't impressed with their offers, he remains on the market.
Both the Orioles and Astros have holes in their rotation that desperately need filling if they're going to contend this season. Baltimore lost Wei-Yin Chen to the Marlins this offseason, and Houston traded rotation hopefuls Vincent Velasquez, Brett Oberholtzer and Mark Appel to the Phillies for Ken Giles.

LAST SEASON: Gallardo went 13-11 with a 3.42 ERA and a forgettable 1.42 WHIP. While Gallardo's numbers were solid overall, he was forced out of games early too often after giving up an abundance of walks and hits. It's worth noting, he did go four straight starts without allowing a run.
OUR TAKE: He's not a power pitcher and he won't strike out very many batters (5.9 per nine innings in 2015), but Gallardo proved in Texas that he can be a dependable, if not frustrating, third starter. Gallardo's stuff may not be good enough for the small ballparks in the AL East, but Baltimore has run out of alternatives.
