Mike Trout was diagnosed with a right thumb contusion after being hit in the hand with a pitch Sunday.

Trout left the 8-3 loss to the Indians in the eighth inning after Tommy Hunter's 93 mph fastball drilled him on his right hand.

X-rays came back negative on Trout, who is hitting .309 with 13 homers, 44 RBIs and nine steals, and is leading all American League outfielders in votes for the All-Star Game. Trout said after Sunday's game that his thumb went numb but that the pain didn't linger and he should be fine.

Angels manager Mike Scioscia said he expects Trout to return to the lineup Monday for the beginning of a three-game set against the Twins.
